There’s Not Enough Lesbian Content. But Here’s Where to Find What We’ve Got.
There is a huge problem in the queer community. I mean massive really. Astronomical.
Where are all the lesbians?
Like, really. Movies, TV shows, books, gay clubs…all seem to lack in presenting lesbians and other Women Loving Women as anything more than a passing thought or a character to be killed off (225 in total according to the below article). Even though they all seem to have no problem with having two “really good friends” flirt relentlessly season after season to keep the queer audience before ripping our hearts out by never putting them into a relationship (I’m looking at you, Rizzoli & Isles.)
With all this said, the few pieces of authentic content that we have carry a ton of importance. They are cultural icons. They are Rachel Weisz spitting into Rachel McAdam’s mouth in Disobedience. They are Shane’s F-Boi energy in The (not aging well) L-Word. They are Callie and Arizona having hot shower sex on Grey’s Anatomy.
They are the visual bible of our community.
